Best tips to eat healthy this Summer

During summer and due to higher temperatures, our metabolism slows down a bit. It's important to keep that in mind when choosing our meals for the day. 🌞😎


Our Detox in a Box nutritionist, gives you some insightful tips on how to choose your foods and drinks this Summer to ensure you make the most out of all the food you consume.


Hidration


Can seem obvious, but stressing it is never too much - specially during the warmer months it is essential to stay well hydrated.


If you have trouble drinking a lot of water, we suggested you try: For this try:

  • Flavored waters with red fruits, lemon, mint, cucumber, etc;

  • Iced teas (that can easily be homemade and sweetened with cinnamon or fruits);

  • Fruits rich in water like watermelon, melon, etc.



Raw Salads


Choose salads with a base of mixed greens (lettuce, arugula, watercress, purslane) and a variety of colorful vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, beets, radishes.


If you like you can also add some fruits.




Proteins


As a source of protein, choose lighter and more easily digestible foods such as:

  • fish;

  • white meats;

  • beans such as cowpeas;






Foods Rich in Carotenoids


They help protect the skin from the effects of UV rays.


Some of these ingredientes are:

  • egg yolks;

  • orange/red vegetables and fruits: carrots, mangoes, peppers, watermelon, etc.


Overall, like in every other season is important to keep your habits healthy and diverse. We also recommend to make sure you choose seasonal and local products - not only will be a more sustainable way of consuming as it will also make sure your fruits and vegetables are more delicious and filled of nutrients.
